I knew that becoming a mom to a daughter I would eventually have to deal with the make up thing. What I was not ready for is the timing. About a year ago my youngest started dancing and with that came the make up. Now it may seem that I am blaming dance for this early entry into the beauty world, I am definately not. The make up was being used due to recital purposes. Soon after my daughter started playing in make up heavy. It was to the point that we were buying make up sets for christmas. It was then I figured that we may have a little problem on our hands.
Beauty doesn’t sleep
This make up thing had developed into something way bigger. My daughter started to not sleep as much during the night. By the morning she would be wiped out with dark make up from forehead to chin. It was really funny but I had to let her know that this was not okay. We all need sleep or else how could we function and be our best? For a little while I thought that maybe it had worked but of course we still had the occasional rebellion. A lot of people say this happens once a child gets older but I beg to differ.
Fast Forward>>> Stop Live Pink
Now here we are at the age of 5 and we have been without the make up for almost a year and for some crazy reason it’s happening again. Only difference her is that she is a little older and understands a great deal more. I happen to over hear this constant bickering back and forth. Hmmm, I’m going to go see what is all the fussing about. I get in the room only to realize that zanai is wearing lipstick. She looks at me and I look at her, and she asks me “Mommy where is my kitty lipstick”.
It always strikes me as odd how kids can just overlook the fact that they are wrong and just carry on with the normal. It’s funny yet interesting to me. At this point I’m like okay and just started laughing. No I’m not crazy but it just dawned on me that rather sooner than later this should be addressed. This is my moment, right here right now. Why, what is the harm in leaving them be when the want do play make up? Some people frown upon this but they learn to live with it, after all this is your life.
Don’t let what other people think influence your way of life
So when I first started my loc journey (a week ago let’s be honest) I was super excited still am. There is no doubt about that. Here’s my issue when I first started my locs almost a year ago prior to this time. I used the most common thing Jamaican and Lime Locking Wax. Although it wasn’t until after that I started seeing bad reviews about this. It lede to stop using this product but not so much the reviews but for a personal viewpoint. It was way to greasy and made my hair feel weighed down with guck. Also the smell was okay but not so much pleasant after a night sleep. I’m not saying don’t use this (but your pillows will thank me.) So this go around I decided to switch to up. I wanted something that wouldn’t be really heavy or greasy on my hair. So I did my research.
After doing a good amount of research I seem to have found something that works for me. Not to be confused as a product only for me.😂 Its really people out there like that, but you keep on shining. It has all of the necessities that I was looking for including that key component. Yes, moisture see we just agreed on something. As of recently I have found myself falling back into love with Cantu. Now they have a local line as well can you even begin to grasp that accomplishment. This is something beautiful I am actually totally stoked that they have taken this route.
This product is a life saver I am currently retwisting my hair as I type. Now I know your probably like really and yes really I am a firm believer in blogging from anywhere. Anyway back to this awesome find. I have this thing about really sticky and messy hair products. This causes me to stay away from certain things but its okay I can live with that, but not without this. This has a funny texture but more along the lines of a more solid putty. Its doesn’t make a great deal of mess and can be shaken or placed in hand to observe.
Before the Tide
It was almost similar to this but more firmer. After I did my first go around of starter locs I used it and my hair came out beautiful. Unfortunately they did not stay in. Trust me we will address that later in another entry. However if you have not tries this product I suggest you don’t even waste you money on this. It causes a great deal of frizz and your locks will keep unraveling. You are basically stopping yourself from entering into your growth period. Now I gave this product the benefit of the doubt because I don’t listen to other people. I have to pass my own judgement and yes this is a thing that most if not all people do.
Not being a favorite of mine costing me about 5.99 in retail. It really is not worth the time nor effort. I am very disappointed because I had high hopes that they would redeem themselves. No such luck on my end. When it comes to hair in general you have to be very careful what you put into it. This is not something to take lightly. Love your hair and be you.
What is your favorite products to use on your locs?
We are in that phase mama where you tell your toddler no and she literally has a moment of weakness. She simply cannot understand why she can’t do what she wants. I am okay with that but when she starts being extra now we have a problem.
Zoii has been throwing her little tantrums for a period of time now that she is 1 and walking. Today I saw something new from her. Drinking juice in the living room she began to spill it. So what is your first instinct because mine is I don’t want to be stuck cleaning up spilled juice. So mommy took it, yes but that doesn’t make me a bad person. Zoii looked at me and the n she tuned up like one of those old fire fighter trucks back in time. She looked at me mama’s not budging on this sorry hon. No lie she instantly stopped crying and turned to me and slapped me.
She did what?
Yes she slapped mama, I looked at my husband and I said did you see that? I mean I was in complete shock. Maybe because my other girls never did this they common crying of course but hitting nope. I looked at her we have eye contact, I took to fingers and taped her little hands.
Disciplined capital “D”
I know some parents may be against spanking, popping but I learned from my previous mistakes. My 7 year old grew up fast and before I knew it she was mouth all mighty tongue everlasting. Me and my husband were like oh we don’t want to spank our kids. The reason being we used to get spankings when we were little.(its not uncommon just not spoken of openly) I mean who wants that, but I’ve come to realization that from those spanking I learned a valuable lesson. Stop Being Dumb, you get spankings for dumb things so the only solution would be to stop doing them. My daughter was living proof or lacking discipline. Yes I was that mouthy kids mom but that ship quickly sailed.
Don’t Prejudge Me
This is what I believe to be true but I do believe that discipline is a Must when it comes to your children. You can only take but so much, so I stopped feeling bad for popping my kids hands or spanking them. Only when it is needed, like if I told you a billion times not to do something. Then when you get in trouble you expect there to be no consequences.
That’s Just Down Right Bananas.
Raise sweet little humans, mine are from Mars
I do understand that you want you child to behave and yes it starts with you. It takes a village to raise a child or at least that is what I was raised on. The outcome of this would be that enstilling certain traits and behaviors in our littles now could mean less problems in motherhood, parenthood later on down the line.
Think about it, what type of forms of discipline do you use for tantrums?
For as long as I can remember I have always had a love for hair. Well mine that is. I only had one rule, no one plays in my hair but me. This prevented the inevitable part and avoids confrontation. If anything was to ever happen it would be my fault, and mine alone.
Can you say that with time coming and going I grew out of this. I am beyond over this MyHair and Me feud.I have tried so many different things and now I simply want to be as comfortable as possible. Raising 3 girls can be more time consuming than most. When it came to morning routines, this became a problem. For me to get all my girls together, hair done would take more than an 2 hours. To me that’s just craziness but hey moms like me go through this A Lot.
So I started thinking what would be easy for me to maintain, manage, style, color, all the above. Locs of course now just wait I didn’t just come up with this. This took a great deal of time, and this is not my first rodeo with dreads might I add. About a year ago I started my locs only to combed them out. Don’t worry it was for good reason, my daughter was being bullied because of her afro. I combed my hair out too now we are twins my love.
No matter there Texture, Length, or Color of your hair, you are Beautiful Inside and Out
Regrets are not for me
If you asked me if I would do it again I would say yes each time, who cares how many times you have to start over. Now here I am again I have shaved all my hair off and grew it back to start my natural loc journey. So here goes nothing the only part that I am really going to hate would be the wiggly worms part, that’s until they grow that is. Going into this Yes I was really scared, because I was going to get them professionally done but then I thought why? I can save money do them myself and learn how to do starter loc’s myself. This doesn’t always pan out because styles like these are easier done on you than other people. Now that I have done them on myself I actually find it very easier and I will be able to keep retwisting my own hair.

Okay you got me sometimes I do tend to have little surprises up my sleeve every now and again. All jokes aside I’m not much of a hair mom but I’ve been learning a great deal about hair since I have been quarantined. I always like to conversate with moms about different hair products and their experiences. I mean who doesn’t that’s how you learn neat new tricks and great products for natural hair. Not sharing should generally be against the law but who am I to say. Anyway that’s neither here nor there don’t you want to hear about this awesome new product that I have come across?
A journey to Moisture
I used to hear people talk all the time about deep conditioning your hair in which I shrugged off. I didn’t think anything of it because it’s not a common item I use. Then again i’m not one of those moms with beautician skills. I simply just don’t posses them what so ever. So it was something that just didn’t appeal to me. As of late I have grown curious as to how I can get my girls hair to grow. So I started try new things and a deep conditioner is one of them.
When it comes to actually going through with this it’s quite simple. I mean if you actually read the directions. Unfortunately I am normally one of those people who don’t read the directions. Don’t worry always on my head never my little’s. Applying this product is easy.
Part your hair into four parts. (I know it’s tedious bu worth it)
Apply product to the outskirts of your hair.
Continue to apply conditioner to parts within each section
Make sure conditioner is evenly distributed
I would not recommend(.)
I mean I am a firm believer that conditioner period is best placed on wet hair. The same applies for deep conditioner as well in order to obtain the best benefits. (Wet = Damp)
The Take Down
Now is the moment that we have been waiting for the take down. This means that you have almost reached the end. While you are taking down her hair you can just gently run your fingers through her hair and feel the smoothness of it. Now all products work differently for everyone. I just happen to like this specific deep conditioner at the moment. I loved the effect that it had on my daughters hair and the moisture is mind blowing. This process is just as simple as it sounds. At this point we are just taking out our protective style so that we can wash. There is no need to be rough depending on the protective style you did it should be easy. I decided to do the two strand twists because they are quick and easy.
Washing with my right
This is the best part I get to feel the outcome of using this product on her hair. I always tend to wash 2x. I guess you can call it an old wives tale. When you wash your hair the first time you are only lifting the dirt. The second time is to get rid of the dirt that was lifted 1st time around.
In the End
I am normally a stickler for sometimes trying new things. I am really glad I tried this product. It was actually something that I was looking for. I have always struggles with moisture when it comes to my daughters hair. Now with products like these it’s a lot more manageable and less time consuming. I let her hair air dry to see if the moisture was still there and it was. I’m definitely a fan this would be considered one I would come back to.
What is a deep conditioner?

What is a Deep Conditioner?
These products are more effective than the average conditioner. Most conditioners are the same as the shampoo not really thick but a more of a thin substance. Deep conditioners are known to be much thicker and they either come in liquid or a paste.
Does clean hair matter much?
Well of course!
The surface has to be clean in order for the deep conditioner to do it’s job. Deep conditioners are used mainly on the outskirts of the hair. It’s main purpose is to soften hair while mending any flaws.
De-tangle Me Please
I know that this is the very last thing that you wish you were doing right now. On the other hand let’s face it, it’s a must especially if you have girls. I would suggest that before you start this process you grab yourself a big tooth comb (prevents hair breakage), less fuss. Anyways I saw it more beneficial for our sanity if I detangled her hair after I applied the deep conditioner. Starting from the ends comb each section out. You may see some hair entangled in the comb but that is normal obviously.
Being as though your going to have to walk around with this in your hair, you might as well be comfortable. I mean who wants all that crap on their neck, really? So up we go into a protective style allowing the deep conditioner to really get into your hair. Brace yourselves because you going to be sporting this style for about 10 – 30 minutes.
So I’m going to start by saying that I Absolutely Love Hair Color. To me it’s a way to express yourself while having fun. Now all hair colors are bit best suited for different tones this we know to be true. You can be bold and still be beautiful with a beautiful color suited for you.
Here and now in society we tend to see alot of different colors some are beautiful and some are disastrous. I am no beautician but even I know how to do highlights. There are an assortment of different colors and brands but not all of them may take.
What is hair dye
Without all that extra crap lets get straight to the point it simple the practice of changing hair color. People use it for all sorts of reasons covering up the grey, or just simply changing the color for fashion or desire. The reasons for hair dye is endless.
Beautiful color and for $9 dollars a box it’s worth every penny. It even provides you with a bleaching solution for bright evolving color.
This brand is something wonderful. No matter what color I’m looking for whether I am looking to make a statement this is the way to go. The Colors are endless.
I recently tired this particular brand and instantly fell in love with it. I literally loved the vibrance of color that I brought 2. The color does not fade.
DIY Hair Dye
For everything that is great there is always a different way to do things if you want to cut down on spending. Or just simply want to do something fun with you hair or your kids hair. My daughter is only 7 and she has been begging me for color and I simply say no.
To DIY I say yes
This is a chance to bond with your child and do something fun just for them. Kids want the ability to speak out as well and express themselves. In more ways then one this is one of those things. So grab the bull by the horn and just dive in. What’s the worst that can happen?
You Can Do It To
Mix 1 cup of salt with 16 cups of water
Bring Mixture To A Boil
Sprinkle Color Into Mixture Prior to Dying
Vegan It Up
Mix 1 Part Vinegar to 4 Parts Water
Repeat Same Process As Regular Dye
There are a variety of different dyes out the so if you are a do it yourself type of person and love color like me take the time and save your money. What’s better than knowing what’s in you dye it gives me a sense of comfort.
