Plants + Urban+ ME

Have you ever wanted to start you own indoor garden but never got around to doing it? For what ever reason you never got around to it let’s just knock that out of the box because it’s not carved in stone. If you want something then you have to be willing to sacrifice for it even if it’s you time. I have always had a love for plants but never had enough time for myself to even collect one. That was a real blow for me because here I am stuck in the house due to quarantine looking for an outlet and I am still am making excuses. The thought did cross my mind quite a few times prior to quarantine that I should start my own but again I had so much going on that I quickly forgot. I really became interested in plants because of the great health benefits that they provide. My daughter suffers from chronic asthma in the beginning being cooped up in the house started to have a toll on her health. We were going through quite a few episodes. So I started to research plants that better help the air quality in you home. To my surprise there was quite a few choices when it came to indoor plants but I absolutely fell in love with the “Peace Lily”. The next day I went out and got my very own and the rest is history. Over a period of time my love for plants have grown causing curiousity as it pertains to each plant causing me to start my own collection.

More Oxygen Please

Some people like the air quality that plants provide and then you do have some of those people who in fact are looking for those particular plants that actually provides the most oxygen. If you believe that there is a such thing that exist I would have to tell you that plants like these do exist. Looking for one that produces more oxygen well here goes nothing.

  • Snake Plant
  • Money Plant
  • Palm (Areca)
  • Chinese Evergreens

All or even just one of these plants will give you the results you are looking for. I literally have a snake plant in every room of my home to esure better oxygen flow all throughout my home. I would reccomend that if you are considering one of these plants, you start will the snake plant being as though they are so low maintnence.

  • Watering: Every 2 -8 weeks
  • Sunshine Vibes: indirect sunlight
  • Fertilizing: A couple of times during the spring time

It is literally that easy no string attached type of deal and this is a great first starter plant if you have one kiddo’s or two.

Collecting plants

Once you get into it then maybe you will even start to explore new plants such as urban plants in which comes in a variety of sizes and vibrant colors. As I started to see and learn about urban plants the more I wanted my very own to grow and study. Where could I search for urban plants if I am a beginner, I wanted to tackle this as easy and gently as possible. I came to the conclusion that maybe Etsy was a start, but as I looked on Etsy I realized that it wasn’t just the plant that people were selling but cuttlings as well. I’m no expert but I can assure you this wasn’t the road that I was willing to go because I was so new to this. So I started small, facebook marketplace had a wide variety and so I started looking into different plants. I finally became linked to this nice woman who provides me with all my urban plants. Some in which you would originally have to order, she even puts baskets together. Cactus’s, Succulants, Rare, you name it then she has it. I can admit that I was over the moon when I found her it was from there till now 53 and counting. So If you are looking for urban plants don’t give up they are out there, try facebook first.

On a Budget

If your like me then you are always looking for a good deal because you are a plant lover save where you can and binge where it is needed. Generally when I purchase my plants I do go to my connect but I also dabble on etsy as well. I finally learned about cuttlings and I have been having a blast planting new plants that I have never seen before. They are reasonably priced and if your willing to pay for shopping it’s a plant lovers paradise.

Go for the green

Still thinking on whether or not you should get started well here is the answer “Yes”. Don’t wait like I did to start on something that yo love to do. If it bring you comfort than I am all for it. During these trying times we do in fact need a little more self care time  and need to unwind rather than releasing your emotions elsewhere.

My Loc Journey: 1 Month Update

a Milestone Worth Celebrating

I don’t know about you but I am simply just ecstatic. As you know I embarked on my loc journey about a month a go now. First, going into this again I knew that it would be a bit tough to get into the swing of things again. I had my doubts but my focus was to make it to a month. That was my short term goal that I started with, and yes I started small. I didn’t want to rush anything or discourage myself in anyway.

Throughout this experience within a month I have learned a great deal on what works for me.

Retwist

I am particularly annoyed by the way my hair tends to look matted. So I have made it a point to retwist my hair every 3-4 weeks tops. This would allow for new growth to grow and be retwisted with my existing locs. It has proven useful for me so far.

Some people say that it is bad to retwist you hair but so much when you are trying to loc your hair. Well everyone doesn’t always have the best of luck when it comes to locking. For instance before my hair started to even loc up it would occasionally untwist itself. This caused me great frustration but I pushed forward. Retwisting my hair more than most but wishing that my locs would stay and now they have.

Diy Hair Overnight Mist

  • Witch Hazel
  • African Pride Oil
  • Water (Avoid for 4C Hair)

I soon realized that this remedy would not be the same as before. When I first attempted this and I sprayed the mist in my hair they immediately began to unravel. Of course I mean today of all days but of course it was okay because I had already planned to retwist.

By eliminating the water I prevent further frizz up unless it’s new growth of course. I moisturize my hair with just a mixture of oil and witch hazel.

Loads of Fun

This journey so far has been amazing. I have met a great deal of new people within the loc community. If you are considering the locs then I would strongly encourage you too. Locs is the best decision I have ever made again that is . (lol) I literally get up in the morning and have to do niothing but my girls hair. This is a win win for me and the kids.

Quarantine|with the Husband

I know a lot of woman will agree when I say that this quarantine has been hell. I knew that in the beginning it was going to be hard when my husband had to stay home. Hard in the terms of he has ADHD and so he has to stay active or he becomes a Nagitha Kristie. Just yap yap yap. We generally avoid this but being as though we literally have nothing to do. We are stuck and so we have been trying to cope with everything.

Then you throw kids in the mix its hell on wheels but at least they keep him occupied for the most part. You know how sometimes when people get stuck with each other for a long period of time. They start to get on each others nerves, now I know some people that would beg to differ. (appearances) I am going to be bluntly honest, my husband has been driving me up a wall. At first I couldn’t make sense of it because when he was always at work I missed him. Then I was kinda complaining because I did miss him. Now I have come to realization that we have just been stuck in the same place each other. There is absolutely the worst thing ever if I watch another Netflix stream I might just lose my eyes.

Now we have come up with different things to help keep us busy during quarantine. Its not as bad as before, I wanted to Bart Simpson strangle him. For him annoying me is all in good fun. Sometimes he complains that I need to smile more. Obviously my husband is the playful overboard. He always means well and always makes me smile so I’m good there.

I hope that after quarantine when things get moving again. We can get back to where we were. Until then I can make it, he’s not going to get my sanity lol. Once moms lost it dads not far behind. 😜

YogA Bound

Dear Yoga I’m A Fan,

For the longest time I have always wanted to do yoga. I suppose I was my own greatest enemy in this. Every time I would think about starting up again, I would tell myself little untruths. They would go a little something like the kids will never let you do it, when would you have the time, you should probably learn meditation first…..

So many times this has stopped me from doing what I want to do. I suffer from anxiety and so yoga is an outlet for me and another way for me to express myself through movement.

What Now?

Now I have given this much thought and the time is now. I mean what am I waiting for exactly? I’m just waisting time instead of bettering myself and my health.

Reality Check

As I am sitting here getting my thoughts together and anxiously waiting for the app to download. At this point I don’t know what to expect and so I just wait. By the way for those of you who are waiting for the app I am definately sharing. Yea it’s that good, it’s called Do You.

Inspire Yourself

I am super excited to start this. I know that it may be hard at first but I am my own worst enemy and best motivator. As long as I keep pushing forward and doing hat matters to me as well I can accomplish it all.

I put my plan into motions and I started reaching out to some of the moms. You can always find yoga moms on instagram. Inspiring other moms that you can be fit, calm, motivated, and mom. This one profile in particular that I follow is awesome and I love her good vibes. You can check her out @withlovemarisaa. I asked her abou it and she directed me to this app that she used when she started out. She was super nice and willing to help even though she didn’t know me from a can of peas.

This app even goes as far as letting you set up your own goals. As you can see I am simply just starting but I have chosen to do the beginners program. Follow the teachers as they provide you the guidance that you need. After completing this program I am going to venture onto another challenge.

Sleep and Co.

Why does it seem that all of the sudden nap time has some how become harder for me. My 5 year old always fights me to the end. I dont know what it is, why not take a nap there are plenty of adults that would jump at the chance. Lets take a little sanity vacay who cares if it’s for an hour or two.

I recently started to notice that she would stay up all day and then crash around 6. Here’s the problem bed time is bed time and that’s at 8. So the dilemma hear is that she’s barely getting any sleep.

What Can You Do

There are a lot of different resources out the that can help with that. If you do a little bit of digging you can find loads of things. I know I know pinterest right? This is a large community where sharing is what we do.

  • Lay With Your Child
  • Have a Schedule
  • Be Firm
  • Use Natural Remedies (Tea)
  • Read a Book

Laying Down

I know this may sound strange but for all the above reasons children tend to sleep better around there parents. There can be a cause or maybe not, for instance my daughter is afraid of the dark so laying with me helps her get to sleep easier.

Schedule

Let’s be honest we all know that spare of the moment and kids do not go well together. You cant just sparaticaly say hey nap time. Your kids going to look at you sideways. If you start make sure you enforce this add it into their schedule. This will help them get into the habit because they know what comes next.

Be Firm

Somehow our kids sometimes have the upper hand in situations. They use their charm to try to milk the cow so to speak. You have to make sure that what you say is law. Standing your ground will let your child know you mean buisness.

Natural Remedies

This always helps and all it takes is a hot cup of water. Tea is good for the body and mind. If you want to calm your child think “Tea”.

  • Tea
  • 1/2 tsp of Honey
  • Sweetener (Optional)

The tea can be any tea that you desire. If you have a specific purpose then find a tea that matches. Make sure that it is safe for your child. I always rotate between either chamomile of green tea. You can never go wrong with either or.

Read

This is probably the best part for kids learning about the world above and beyond. Although your child may not be sleeping but they are being productive and working their brains. Working with imagination sometimes fueling sleep. Also I hear reading is an awesome method to get your child to sleep.

Every child is different and maybe you have a neat tip or trick as to how you get your little one to sleep. I’m interested in hearing all of the different approaches other parents use.

Fitness On The Horizon

So here I am once again awake although I can say that my mind is racing. There’s nothing wrong with letting your mind wander. One thing that keeps popping up is fitness.

Don’t Let Your Mind Get The Best Of You

I know I want to be healthy and fit but this journey is not so much about me but more so my husband. He is trying to lose weight, me being me I said let’s do this. I mean I have been wanting to workout for quite sometime. So we are going to see this through

Although I am weighing in at only 135lbs which is a steady weight of like forever. I cant seem to catch a break in the fluctuation department not that I’m complaining. I still have some baby weight I would like to work off.

Experience This

I share the great news about the diet plan and fitness goals for my husband and I. I cant help but icer hearing a faint voice reply yea like you butt needs it. I am aware that it may have been meant as a compliment but it could go both ways. My goal here is not to lose weight but work on my body physically, and to be that support beam for my husband every step of the way.

When you are working out with you partner you have to keep in mind to be supportive. Not the smothering kind this also goes for motivation. Yes there is a such thing as motivational smothering. Sometimes we as woman feel like we are being caring and compassionate. The guys like trying to run from being coddled. So be very mindful of this nothing’s good beyond this point.

There are however downsides to this as well, keto is still a fairly new diet and is still being researched but as of right now The disadvantages are not well thought of.  

Downside

Although this choice may be perfect for you, you still have to consider the long term damge of subjecting your body to this. Keto can potentially cause kidney damage, nutritional deficiencies. The side effects consists of constipation, dehydration, fatigue and nausea.

Veggie Please

Simply a practice to stay away from meat and products that my be “Animal Slaughter”. Some people choose this journey because they do believe that animals have the right to live as well.

I actually tried this particular eating style some things were not my cup of tea but then other were. It was a very enjoyable journey but it just wasn’t for me.

We all say hey we are going to become healthy and actually make a difference but somewhere along the line we lose sight of that. Lets maintain the initial goal and go for green, once you get into the groove of things everything else will fall into place.
